CoD 1: Session 06: Cavesmuth's Factions

Image
Pre-scene Notes Surprised and awed at the DND community's victory over the OGL war and not letting a few executives and capitalists that haven't even played DND before completely ruin the name that's started before they were anything. I'm not sure whether the damage is done already, but considering this is one of the rare cases a massive company backed down and publicly apologised for messing up, it should be worth celebrating. Still in the candid sense, only money talks, and this is driven by seeing their competitor's spike and theirs decline, and if only there were more good news stories like this every day. Scene setup/conflict:  Party visits the Trade House and Governor’s Office to decide which faction to work for Interrupt scene: NPC action, Overthrow Animals. The overthrow got me thinking this must be related to the Governor. Considering I want to emphasise the factions, and it was the party’s next destination, I decided it was between Trader’s House & Go

CoD 1: Session 05: Cliff's Edge Tavern

Image
Pre-scene Notes - Scene setup/conflict:  Outside tavern, no material reasons for party to stick together any more. As aforementioned,  I find this glue to keep the party together is hard to stay strong initially, so have to work at it somehow. Still no altered/interrupted scene! Scene: The Cliff’s Edge tavern looked to have been built right from within the cliff, unassuming without much decorations, simply sinking into the cliff face. The large entrance way was just robust wooden door, which actually seemed as if it could stand a small siege.    The Party stared at each other: Filli wanted to find Stella while Yankovic wanted to learn more about the Cave. The two argued, but Zar convinced the other two they could both start by finding info in taverns anyway, so at least could enter together. As all adventurers in the town apparently stayed here, they could not really go very far from each other as this would likely be the base of operations for all three of them. As the party walked i

CoD 1: Session 04: Wake up at sword point

Image
Pre-scene Notes - Scene setup/conflict:  Don’t know where they’ve landed, woke up at sword point No altered/interrupted scene Scene: Party woke up on a beach, but by who appeared to be a group of guards. Stella was nowhere to be seen, to Filli’s worry. When the party tried to explain, the guards found it preposterous that a government sanctioned vessel would try and eat its passengers. The other guards said it might be one of Rose’s vessels. They were ultimately convinced by Filli ( rustic hospitality background feature ) and Zar ( persuasion roll+being a half-orc ) so the party were brought without shackles to see the Governor.  Guards led the party north through the fields, and they spotted Cavesmuth. A sparing few huts and houses, some tents, all in front of a large cliff face. There were two large structures atop the cliffs though, almost opposing each other on two sides of the settlement. They appeared to be estates, with the blue estate having many tents around it. Filli tried t

CoD 1: Session 03: Escaped but stranded

Pre-scene Notes This was when I got stuck in scene splitting with using Mythic. I also split the scenes into chapters as well in SME, and thinking about plot pacing and structure, it just was not going to work. This was when I’d thought I would just ignore any form of structuring for now, and it would have to come back later for novelization. This was when also I realised that if I pad out more scenes, the chaos factor goes far too low, and the campaign goes into a rut. For both a normal GM or playing solo, or indeed as an author, this I had found was a very good indicator of when to inject some conflicts if met with a roll of uninterrupted scenes. I will post the next scene of my actual play together with this post, as this was a short scene. Saying that, the new version of Mythic was just released, and the new version seems to have been rewritten with more perspectives on the scene starting/ending. I've already got quite a few sessions recorded, so if I do use the new version

CoD 1: Session 02: Encountering the Captain

Image
Pre-scene Notes  - Scene setup/conflict:  Party went back to the dinning room to find Stella before going up the stairs to confront pirates/find a way to escape No altered/interrupted scene Scene: Having not found Stella in the dinning room, and not on the stern balcony either, they decided to go up the circular stairs. Mythic agreed they would look at the balcony but Filli failed the search as Stella hid behind her Major Illusion spell. I’d also stationed her there if she needed to jump ship with Water Walk/Breathing. She already cast an Arcane Eye up on the deck / to follow the party so she knows what’s going on (eg she’s just using them as her scouts) They heard the Captain in his quarters, but the door was locked so they could not get in. The Captain thought he had heard something and when the party thought they would slip away unnoticed, Zar stepped on a stray nail and yelps, then tumbled down the stairs. The party looked at him in dismay, as Zar succeeded in his self-proclaimed
