COD 1: Session 20: Murder Mystery 3

Pre-scene Notes - Scene setup/conflict:  Party’s Day2 evening investigative session to question the Skornos again after discovery of an artefact at the crime scene. Altered scene: I think the best way to alter this is that the Skornos aren’t as expected at their camp. I rolled for a location, which was the break room. It was hard for me to think why, until I remembered I had hardly any physical evidence. But now, I have an excuse to create one and put the Skornos in a bit of hot water as they are the only ones without a motive for now. Scene: The Sokornos were not at their tent at all and instead, the party found the Skornos tied up in ropes on the chairs in the break room. Basically everyone from the outpost was there and the Captain greeted the party as they entered.  Hudri had actually been investigating the case as well in parallel to the party, and he had found a bloodied rake inside the Skornos’ tent. It was a four prong rake, and therefore was not beyond belief t...

Pre-scene Notes Had a computer problem so had taken a pause in the midst of the murder mystery cave dive amongst all things. But now back to the original programming.  Scene setup/conflict:  Party’s Day1 evening investigative session to question the purser, Hudri. Interrupted scene: Ambiguous event: Struggle Military.  Again an interrupted scene but I’ll very quickly address and move onto Hudri questioning. This proves it was a good move I’d randomly generated all suspects’ info ahead of time, which means I have a lot more potential information/clues than investigation sessions that I can divulge with these curve balls with Mythic (or as a GM if your player throws you them).  Scene: The party asked around and Hudri was seen going to the guard house to talk to the Captain. The party went into the break area but no one was there. They heard voices in the Captain’s quarters and approached, hearing some of their conversation. Zar put up a hand to ask Kevolo and others to...

Pre-scene Notes I’d went into this with a preconception that it’s really difficult to run murder mysteries solo, considering the main draw of the genre is to learn of the developing storyline, form your own hypothesis, and then be surprised at the final killer/ending.  In developing the method I used for this actual play to keep to the above, I had references from the following that I would like to link for others to consider if they are also trying to play their own murder mystery solo: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/274299/Tales-of-Murder-A-SolitaireFriendly-Game-of-Mystery https://rnd-diversions.blogspot.com/2012/05/homicide-life-on-blog.html?m=0 I didn’t fully copy/use/understand these sources, but had taken bits from them to form my own opinions on the most succinct and spontaneous way I can run a mystery without spoiling it for myself.  I’d also put in the post-scene notes last post as well the random generators and tools I’d used to help in the process to maximise...

COD 1: Session 17: Greenhand Outpost

Pre-scene Notes We’re finally going for another Cave dive! I feel the pacing of this campaign is too slow with seemingly so many things happening outside the Cave so far, so I’ll try and concentrate on this. This session will show how the Cave dive mechanism can further develop Cavesmuth’s NPCs’ backstories. Scene setup/conflict:  Party back to step one before the incident at the Docks, and have to find a way to build fame No altered/interrupted scene Scene: The party ate breakfast at the tavern hall upstairs in silence. For once, Filli was the last to join them, but now with a reanimated Fido in tow. The Cliff’s Edge Tavern was littered with patrons as per all hours of the day, and they were still talking about the ship that crashed into the Docks. It had been towed back into the quay now, but the repair and cleaning work on the Docks were going to continue for a while. Soke plopped some bacon and eggs in front of Filli with a large jar of milk, grunting a shortie lik...
